What you will do 

As a Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a team of Senior Program Officers, Program Officers and Program Assistants to ensure effective and efficient delivery of Agency programs
  • Providing policy, procedural, and budgetary direction to the team and associated program committees
  • Representing and promoting the Agency with a broad audience, including national/international partners, university and college researchers, students and administrators, scientific societies, and private, not-for-profit, and public sector organizations
  • Leading analysis of reports and complex cases, including those related to existing or large-scale collaborations
  • Making funding recommendations or decisions within delegated authority
  • Leading working groups and projects, including corporate-level working groups as required
  • Making decisions of varying complexity related to program design
  • Advising senior management on complex program policies and procedures, and contributing to the development of new initiatives

What you need to succeed

Education

Experience

  • Significant experience* in program management in a college, university, government or industry setting 
  • Significant experience* in leading complex projects or programs through their complete lifecycle (development, delivery, communicating results, monitoring)
  • Experience in working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver joint projects or programs
  • Experience in briefing senior management, policy development, budget management and/or change management
  • Experience analyzing, synthesizing, and presenting quantitative and qualitative information, both orally and in writing
  • Experience in managing human resources - an asset
  • Experience in working in a scientific or engineering environment - an asset
  • Experience in working in research or research administration - an asset

*Significant experience, as defined for the purposes of this position, refers to the depth and breadth of experience acquired over at least three years. 

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the mandate and structure of NSERC and its policies, practices and funding programs 
  • Knowledge of Canadian research funding structures and relevant stakeholders across government, academia and industry  
  • Knowledge of broader trends or issues related to research, post-secondary education or application of research results in science, engineering, technology or innovation fields 
  • Knowledge of international research funding structures, stakeholders, approaches or trends - an asset
